Environment Canada warns: Severe thunderstorms with risky gale force winds, large hail (up to 2.5 cm) and heavy rain are possible in the Ottawa and Gatineau regions tonight.
The western parts of Ottawa and northeastern Quebec are considered particularly vulnerable, as they are where the risk of tornadoes is highest. Wind gusts of up to 100-110 km/h and precipitation of more than 50 mm are expected, which can lead to damage to homes, fallen trees, delays in transportation and power outages.
Residents are advised to remove anything loosely fastened to the street in advance, keep a flashlight and extra water on hand, and at the first sign of a thunderstorm, immediately seek shelter in a house, basement or interior rooms.
