Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that his company has been testing driverless robotaxis for several days. This was reported by the industry publication Electrek.

At the end of April, it became known that Tesla launched a robotaxi service in the United States with an operator behind the wheel. However, in order to fully launch without an operator, the company must first test the technology. At the end of May, Tesla CEO Elon Musk admitted that his company had released cars without operators inside on the roads and they have been working for several days.

“We have been testing driverless Model Y cars on public streets in Austin without any incidents a month ahead of schedule,” Musk emphasized. The entrepreneur said that Tesla will launch a commercial service for customers in June.

Media journalists noted that Tesla, apparently, uses cars without a driver, but with a remote operator to control trips. Earlier, Morgan Stanley analysts said that Tesla would not be able to do without operators.

Electrek experts negatively assessed the launch of a robotaxi without an operator in the car. "It's not a victory if there are 'no incidents' after a few days of testing," said automotive expert Fred Lambert. He said robotaxis would need to travel hundreds of thousands of miles to register success.

Earlier, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk called the successful operation of Starship rockets the main goal for the coming years. According to him, Starship will be the "holy grail of rocketry."
