Canada Investigates WestJet Data Breach

Canada's federal privacy commissioner has launched an investigation into a cybersecurity incident at WestJet that occurred in June.

On June 13, the airline said a "criminal third party" had gained unauthorized access to its servers and systems. WestJet later said no credit card details or passwords were stolen, but some personal and travel information was compromised.

WestJet has begun notifying affected customers and offering support.

Commissioner Philippe Dufresne said the investigation will examine the company's security measures and the timeliness of customer notifications. The goal is to ensure the breach is contained and customers' personal information is protected. No further details have been released.
