Fire in Kanata: Firefighters extinguished a fire in a shopping center
A fire broke out in a restaurant in a shopping mall on Eagleson Road in Kanata on Monday afternoon. According to the Ottawa Fire Department, a call for smoke in the restaurant's restroom was received at 2:09 p.m.
A second alarm was raised 20 minutes later as the flames spread to the roof and began to threaten neighbouring businesses.
Firefighters quickly began extinguishing the fire and brought a hose line into the building. The work was complicated by hot and humid weather - temperatures reached 32°C (90°F), which felt like 38°C (100°F). An OC Transpo bus was provided to give the firefighters a break from the heat.
The fire was contained at 3:13 p.m., just over an hour after it started. Powerful fans were used to remove the remaining smoke from the building.
A fire inspector is on scene to determine the cause and source of the fire. There are no casualties.
