Redblacks Lose to Alouettes Again at Home

The Ottawa Redblacks suffered a painful loss in their season opener at home, falling to the Montreal Alouettes 18-39. It was their ninth straight loss to their closest rival and Montreal's 11th win at TD Place since 2018.

The game was also a bad one for wide receiver Eugene Lewis, whose touchdown streak ended at nine, just one short of the CFL record.

Backup quarterback Matt Schiltz, who filled in for the injured Drew Brown, had 205 yards and one touchdown, but threw three interceptions, one of which was returned 45 yards into the end zone.

The Redblacks were once again let down by their discipline, with 11 fouls and 98 yards. The team was down 3-19 in the first half, despite a good start.

After the break, the game took on new colors: the defense intercepted a pass, Crum carried the ball from one yard, and then there was a touchdown after a 73-yard drive. But mistakes and penalties allowed the Alouettes to build on their success.

Ottawa's score on the season is 0-2.
